Set or modify a path in Unix
For example, in my paths file, I see this: Please don't combine multiple questions in a single post. Each of your questions would be welcome here separately but not all together like this.
Please trim this down to a single question, you could combine 1 and 2 but the others have nothing to do with PATH specifically. Nor does your bonus question, what files are binary? Scripts are not. I have edited my question down.

As a system administrator it is important to understand the many contexts and environments that a script might be run in.
Whether you choose to write all command paths or explictly set the PATH in the script is a matter of coding standards or personal preference. You can even mix and match, i. Either way you have to be aware of what you are doing and why you are doing it.
